Hi Friends! If you follow me on Instagram you know that Banana Republic was running a deal this weekend where you could purchase five full-price items at 50% off. If you know me even just a little, you’re aware then that BR is one of my favorite stores so I definitely took advantage. I always gravitate towards dresses when shopping but after a recent closet purge, it was clear I was most in need of tops. That said, I still tried on what seemed like every piece of the new spring line so I figured I would review the line for fit and quality and share what pieces I actually came home with (those that are marked *)!
*Floral Lace Peplum Top
This was my favorite item that I tried on! There is a very similar version of this top in a dress version that I review below. I love the color, cut, and the quality. I’m especially fond of this top because I know it will pair well with lots of items already in my closet such as white denim, shorts, and midi skirts. I can’t wait to overwear it! Sizing: This ran big. I came home with the XS and it still fits on the looser side. If you are petite, this is probably not going to fit you.
Lace Button-Front Blouse
This top is beautiful and the quality is great. What I didn’t love about it was that it seemed impossible to get into. I was a mess trying to get into it in the dressing room and broke out in a sweat! Considering the price tag and the difficulty of getting it on my body, this stayed in the store. Sizing: Runs TTS.
*Pleat-Hem Layered Tank
I love that this top can be dressy enough for date night (hello statement earrings and stiletto sandals) as well as conservative enough to wear to work with a blazer on top. Sizing: this runs a bit oversized. I still went with the S because I wanted it to fit loose. If you want it to hang closer to your body, I recommend you size down.
*Striped Lace-Trim Shirt
I looove this top! I definitely bought it with work in mind, but I know it will make lots of appearances on weekends and the like. It has way more oomph than the typical button down you see around the office. Sizing: This fits large. I sized down to an XS.
Jeweled Basketweave Pullover
I wanted to love this top but I didn’t. I know that it would be super complicated to wash and it fits like a crop top. Seemed like a bit too much work for me. I did like it though, so will be on the lookout for sales. Sizing: It fits boxy and short, though I still would have purchased the S.
*Pointelle-Stripe Pullover Sweater
I can already see myself throwing on this sweater during late beach nights over and over again. Again, this could easily be worn to work. Sizing: I sized up to a M. The sweater fits on the tighter side.
Striped Cross-Hem Tank
This top is cute, especially for summer paired with white jeans. As a member of the IBTC, this top was cut too low and felt too revealing. Sizing: Fit TTS.
Micro-Stripe Modal Scoop-Neck Tee
This is a good basic that I’m also in the market for. That said, I’m looking for a striped tee that runs extra long in length. This top hit at my waist. Sizing: Fit TTS.
Indigo Boatneck Tee
Another good basic. The scoop neck was a bit revealing and the only way I could have worn this top is if I wore a cami underneath. Too much work for a basic. Sizing: Fit large, I would recommend you size down unless you want the oversized fit.
Floral Ruffle Dress
This dress was one of my top favorites of the new spring line! When I think of dresses I like, this is what I’m usually picturing. E proposed to me while I was wearing a very similar version of this dress. I’m kicking myself for not getting it. Sizing: I’m always a 2 in dresses but I preferred sizing up to the 4. It fit loose for sure, but it was preferable.
Geo Lace Peplum Dress
This is the dress version of this top that I loved. I purchased the top version because I knew I could and would wear it more often. Sizing: Fit TTS.
Eyelet Tie-Front Dress
This dress is adorable and a dress of a bride-to-be’s dreams. I would wear this to the local farmers market, to brunch with my girlfriends, and to otherwise casual events. Sizing: It seemed to run large. I would have gotten the XS.
Floral Drop-Waist Dress
This dress was cute. I tried it on thinking about a summer vacation. It didn’t wow me. Sizing: Fit TTS.
Heritage Feather Print Dress
I tried this dress on thinking it would be a good “throw on” casual dress during spring and summer, and the fact is was neutral on tone. I didn’t like it at all. Sizing: Ran huge. Tried on the XS and was still too big.
Limited Edition Pleated Silk Dress
Though I never actually tried this dress on, I did see it in store. It is beautiful and would be a good purchase if you have a summer wedding coming up! The quality of the material is like a dream.
Print Belted Flounce Shirtdress
Also tried this dress on with summer vacation in mind. I didn’t like the fit or the belted aspect. Sizing: Ran TTS.
