Last weekend Eric and I took a stroll in the rain to say goodbye to Seattle’s infamous Gum Wall. Located on Post Alley Road and part of Pike Place Market, today these walls will be power-washed clean for the first time in twenty years. Apparently two decades worth of gum has (or would have) caused structural damage. Don’t worry though! Once the walls are washed clean, visitors will be encouraged to restart this colorful – yet totally unsanitary – tradition yet again. Ha! Blanca Lake
Everyone lives for summer in Seattle and unfortunately for us, we moved at the tail end of the season. Knowing that we had about five weeks before rainy season commenced, we set out to conquer Blanca Lake almost immediately. We hiked often on the east coast but rarely would we find a trail as beautiful as Blanca (or as challenging!). The trail itself is two hours outside the city and is not a trail for the weary; it is an intense 7.5 mile round trip adventure. Top Pot Doughnuts
Artisan donuts are all the rage these days it seems. With multiple locations throughout Seattle (and a strong following) the clear go-to donut shop is Top Pot Doughnuts. I have been putting off giving them a try in fear of liking them too much and enjoying them too often. I will admit…they are delicious. Thank goodness, donuts aren’t my vice. We sampled six flavors including pumpkin glaze, chocolate glaze, apple fritter, Bavarian creme, strawberry sprinkles, and coffee roll.
